Blog Entry:
We woke up to rain and decided we should keep sleeping, lol. We were up just after 7:00 am which is very much sleeping in for us. Before we left home I had found a dehydrated breakfast meal of ham and eggs with red peppers from 2015. We had to try it, those meals are good for decades so we figured it wouldn't kill us. It didn't but it sure did remind us how far dehydrated meals have come.
Another overcast rainy day, a few sunbreaks earlier on the start of the day when the sun crested the high hills and put some sun on the St. Elias mountains. As you can see the peaks now have snow on them. When we came through eight days ago there was no snow. The trees along the drive have been very pretty today, yellow, orange and a few bits of red here and there, too bad the sun didn't shine more. Saw a few more Tundra Swans today, but none of them were close enough for pictures.
As always we stopped at Kluane Lake\Destruction bay for an extended break to walk the Sammies. As you can see from the pics the snow is on the high peaks here also. Not far down the road we saw about 90-100 Dall Sheep high up on the mountains where they usually are. You can see from the pictures the area they are in on the mountain and the difference between my 300 mm lens and my 840 mm lens. They are still dots with the big gun, just bigger dots lol.
At 2:18 pm we turned onto highway 2 the Klondike highway, which will take us to the beginning of the Dempster. We had a decision to make either drive another 2 hrs. and make it a late night or stop early. We decided that there has been to many late driving days. So we stopped at Fox lake and are staying in site #37 our normal site. Usually there are not to many people here and since it is a Monday hopefully it will be us or just a few others. We have not wild camped this whole trip, just hasn't worked out to be in an area we can do that and the time of day. Have some firewood ready just in case it decides not to rain tonight or the wind kick up too much on the lake. Of all the times we have stayed here I think we have only been able to have a fire once. Note on the fire started the fire and about 15 minutes later it started to lightly sprinkle waiting a about 15 minutes and it got harder so everyone under an awning and the pups into one crate. Kept stoking the fire just in case it decided to stop raining, it didn't but we sat out there for about 30 minutes till the rain put the fire out.
Since we stopped early Lesa is making what I am sure will be an amazing meal of Bison steak, potatoes and some hoity, toity mac and cheese from a dehydrated meal. It was!

Hope everything went well after you called today (9-25). I got the message that you got a jack. Thanks for sending that. I was worried about ya'll. I would have brought mine up to you, but you probably wanted to move before I could have gotten up there...
