Woke up and went outside and watched the Northern Lights in a crystal clear sky. I'm sure the GoPro will have another amazing show overnight. It did shower on us a few times so always interesting to see what Lesa gets on her videos. Great start this morning just after 8 AM, so if the old gravel pit is available on the way to Stewart\Hyder we should be able to have a little early of a stop.
My oh my what a spectacular day! For over an hour out of Boya Lake it was one snow covered mountain top after another. I had to stop taking pictures or we would never get down the road. Just before Jade City we saw a red fox that sat by the side of the road and let me take pictures. Unfortunately Lesa and I believe it has been fed before and was waiting for handouts…not from these two people that is for sure. It was cute none the less, we did see another farther down the road but it ran into the woods and didn't pose for us. At Gnat pass and the rest of the way south it was glorious with the trees changing colors, again I had to stop taking pics.
One of the pics about 60 miles from Meziadian jct you can see some smoke from fires burning. No way to get up there so figure they must have been started by lightning strikes. Meziadian jct and going straight toward Stewart\Hyder and as you can see as usual a beautiful drive. Stopped at bear glacier for some pics (in 2008 that glacier was in the lake).
The old gravel pit was open so just under a 7 hr. drive today. Got camp setup and took some pics of the surrounding area (beautiful) and put the drone up. Couldn’t go very high because of the restrictions due to helicopters traveling the road when needed. In 2023 when we woke up there were mountain goats up high, there were none when we came in but eventually Lesa spotted three of them way up high. Last of the wood will be used tonight if the wind stays down for our last campfire, which it did. We really do like this old gravel pit, completely surrounded by the mountains and come dark there is no traffic. Another very nice night!
