Blog Entry:
Took the obligatory picture before we start the Dempster going across the blue bridge. We always like to come onto the Dempster in the morning and by the pictures you can see why. If it is going to be even a partly sunny day and snow on the peaks of the Tombstone mountains it is just gorgeous.
As you can see Engineer creek has a lot of minerals in it, everything is stained orange. I always like to stop and take a picture of Engineer Creek flowing into the clear Ogilvie River. Saw some ewe Dall Sheep today up on a ridge best pics I could get even with the big gun. So far the road has been in great shape for the Dempster. Only place is when we got into the Ogilvie mountains and along engineer creek, what a pothole, little muddy mess. When we went by the Ogilvie road maintenance station I wanted to go knock on the door and when someone answered I wanted to say "Hell someone does work here I couldn't tell by how terrible the road is". Figured I didn't want to get my butt kicked either so we just kept going LOL!
We looked at Engineer Creek campground just in case we had to come back to it and decided on a site. There is a wild camping spot 6 miles north and no one was there so we took it, setup camp, walked down to the river and finished setting up camp, chopping some firewood for a fire tonight. Pups have a "secure" area they can run around camp and no one is around. They learn their boundaries pretty fast when we are wild camping. I was going to get the drone out but decided that I needed to relax and just sit on my butt instead of go, go, go. Relaxing is one of the hardest things for me to do and these trips really seem to be the only way I get to unwind.
A great night by the campfire, pretty much a completely clear sky. Lesa got some great GoPro footage of the northern lights. No one around but the four of us, we really love to wild camp.
