Last night while waiting out the rain to go for a walk we decided that after two long days of driving we would only drive to Boya Lake today. It is one of our favorite places as we drive north. Surprisingly the drive today was mostly sunny with a few showers here and there. We have added a video of the gravel road on the Stewart-Cassiar Highway, hairpin turns, and a single lane wooden deck bridge. Another conversation we had was that back in 2008, 99% of this part of the highway 97, Stewart-Cassiar was nothing more than a gravel road and now it is 99% paved or chipseal. When we started out this morning there wasn't much in the way of trees turning colors yet, but the farther north we have gone we are starting to see more of them start to turn yellow.
We did see two red foxes but they are too small and far away to capture a good screenshot. Besides the foxes, wildlife has been very scarce. As a matter of fact, today was the first time ever we have never seen black bear along this stretch of road. Hopefully the farther north we get we will see more. Some of the mountains did show themselves today poking out of the clouds, but even with the rain the temps aren't low enough to drop snow up on the high mountains.
We are looking forward to seeing Marnee, the camp host here at Boya and catching up with her and her dog Roger. Since we didn't do a trip last year because the house was being built, I'm sure we will have lots to talk about. The first time we stayed here was in 2019 with Selah. Marnee and Selah fell in love with each other and since then we always spend some time talking and catching up. You can tell Granger has been looking for her. I'm sure Moxee and Marnee will be come fast friends. Marnee came by and Granger was excited to see her for all of 3 minutes (classic Granger). Yep Moxee and Marnee are friends already. We got caught up and found out next year will be her last year doing this. See Marnee is in her 70's, amazing shape for her age but working this place all year is getting to be too much. In the last 3 years her daughter has come out from June-August to help during the busy months and her friend Annie is helping out the rest of this year. She told us by the time we are on our way home she might be closed but if the gate was open and there was no snow on the road to come on down and stay. Not to worry if she has closed up for the year. She was also trying to give us free firewood but we had purchased some already. She is always doing that.
Last night we sat around our first campfire, looking at the stars, satellites and one shooting star as we discussed how Boya Lake felt like home on these trips. As you can see from the pictures Moxee and Granger are in crates at times when we are busy around camp and them in their sleeping quarters. We allow Granger out of the crate on his lead and most times he goes to his crate when he is ready.
Adding 3 videos with one being of the night sky.
